The only airport of the Pitiusas

Ibiza Airport (IATA code IBZ, ICAO code LEIB) is located in Sant Josep de sa Talaia, 7 km south-west of Ibiza Town, in the heart of the Pitiusas Islands. It is the only airport on the island of Ibiza and also serves the nearby island of Formentera (reachable by ferry from the port of Ibiza).

The airport is operated by Aena S.M.E. S.A., the Spanish airport operator that manages 46 airports in Spain. It opened in 1958 and has seen exponential growth since the 1990s alongside the island's tourism boom.

Passenger traffic growth

In 2024 it handled 9,308,555 passengers (+1.5% compared to 2023), with peaks of 90,000 passengers a day on July and August weekends. It is the fifth busiest airport in Spain after Madrid, Barcelona, Palma and Malaga, and the second in the Balearic Islands after Palma de Mallorca.

A hub for Ryanair, easyJet and Volotea

The airport is an operating base for Ryanair (the main carrier, with flights from Milan-Bergamo, Rome-Ciampino, Bologna, Pisa, Naples) and easyJet (flights from Milan-Malpensa, Naples, Venice). Vueling, Volotea, Iberia, ITA Airways, Lufthansa, Air Europa also operate here, along with seasonal charter flights by TUI, Jet2.com, Eurowings, Norwegian.

Strong seasonality

Ibiza Airport has very pronounced seasonality: 75% of annual traffic is concentrated between May and October, with peaks in July (1.8 M passengers/month) and August (1.9 M). In low season (November-March) the number of flights drops drastically, with limited direct connections to Madrid, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca via Iberia Regional Air Nostrum.
